We were delighted to host Rafael H. M. Pereira at SUNLab. Rafael is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), Brazil, where he leads the Data Science team.
His talk, Spatial data science for just and sustainable cities, outlined a research agenda centered on spatial accessibility, transportation equity, and inequalities in access to opportunities, including evidence from Brazil that improving proximity to social assistance centers can increase welfare uptake among vulnerable populations.
After the talk, Rafael met with postdocs and PhD students in our group for a productive discussion of shared research priorities around urban accessibility!
You can find the NetSI announcement of Rafael’s talk here.
